Our 3rd grade students had the incredible opportunity to join a live Zoom call with Dr. Sandra “Sandy” Magnus—Georgia Tech graduate, Professor of Practice at GTRI, NASA astronaut, and a 2022 inductee into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame! 👩‍🚀⭐ Dr. Magnus shared her inspiring journey to becoming an astronaut, her three NASA missions, and what it was like spending over 150 days in space. Students also got to listen in as kids from across Georgia asked her amazing questions about space travel, training, and life beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Experiences like this are rare, and we are so thankful for Georgia Tech Research Institute for allowing our students to connect with a real astronaut! 🚀💛

Happy World Kindness Day!🩷🌎 Students in Mrs. Nasworthy’s and Mrs. Barker’s classes enjoyed handing out kindness gifts to all of the staff members of Emerson Elementary today! They sorted, colored, and sealed their special gifts in preparation of the day! This morning, the students traveled through the hallways to spread kindness and big smiles with music and spontaneous dance parties! It felt so rewarding to do kind things for others! What kind act can you do for someone today?

Today was Takeover Tuesday! Some of our 1st graders had a great time making sweet pickles with Ms. Rainey, our cafeteria manager, and Ms. Clark, BCSS School Nutrition Specialist. Students had fun prepping and slicing the cucumbers and mixing the brine! Their sweet pickles will be served at lunch on Friday.
