A TEAM AWARD: Superintendent Terza and system leaders present the Bartow County College and Career Academy and its work-based learning coordinator collaboration team, which consists of Deanna Boughton (CHS), Dr. Alicia Brown (AHS), and Lori Kilgo (WHS) with the most prestigious award given by the District, the A-Team Award!
Deanna Boughton (CHS), Dr. Alicia Brown (AHS), and Lori Kilgo (WHS) exemplify the three big ideas of our Professional Learning Communities culture as they continually demonstrate a focus on learning, collaboration, and results.
Through observations and conversations with each team member, it is evident this team uses the PLC process to work together with collective responsibility for student learning. They ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all their students, use common formative assessments to monitor student learning, use common assessment data to improve teaching and learning practices, and support the RTI process by providing systematic interventions and extensions for all students.
Deanna Boughton (CHS), Dr. Alicia Brown (AHS), and Lori Kilgo (WHS) will now present at an upcoming school board meeting, New Teacher Institute, and serve as role models for future A-Teams throughout our school system.

VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED: Bring your shovel, small toolbox, and smiles...White Elementary School needs you! See below!
RESPECT & REMEMBRANCE: The Bartow County Board of Education and Central Office staff wore special ribbons at tonight's board meeting and requested a moment of silence to show unity and solidarity with Apalachee High School and honor our own employees who suddenly passed away last week in a series of tragic events. Thank you for your heartfelt expression of support during this difficult time.
INTERNATIONAL DOT DAY: Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration that started in 2009 with a book called The Dot. It's celebrated on September 15th, but we're recognizing the day now and honoring our very own Ms. Dot Frazier of the Bartow Education Foundation because she always exemplifies the above attributes! We love our Ms. Dot!
REMINDER: Wednesday, September 18, will be an Early Release Day! Elementary schools dismiss at 11:30 a.m. and middle/high schools dismiss at 12:30 p.m. Lunch will be served, and buses will run on an early dismissal schedule. After School programs will continue to operate.
SNEAK PEEK: Our school board had the distinct honor of touring our new Esports Arena and STEM Innovation Center ahead of the BIG GRAND OPENING next week!
In the hub for educational excellence and innovation, you'll find all the tools and resources our students will need to excel in STEM fields, such as an interactive learning floor, ClassVR, drones, portable science labs, 3D printers, and so much more! This space will surely equip students on all grade levels with the knowledge and skills required to work in a fast-changing technological landscape!
Over in the grand Esports Arena, playing with international teams, students will enhance their strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Additionally, they will work on teamwork, communication, and learn about career opportunities that they never thought possible, like game development!
PATRIOT DAY: September 11, 2001; We remember and always will.
Check out this special Patriot Day assembly at Allatoona Elementary School, where the chorus sang beautifully, Cobb EMC recognized its American Flag essay winners, and the Cass High School ROTC taught fourth and fifth grade students how to fold and raise a flag!
TEACHER TRIBUTE: The Adairsville Middle School family mourns the loss of their beloved “Mr. Cool.”
He resided in classroom number 48, where the hum of drones, VEX robots, and even power tools were commonplace.
“Mr. Alan Cook, our ‘Mr. Cool,’ was the epitome of what it means to be a STEM teacher,” said AMS Science Teacher Summer Glancy. “He loved to see his students figure out experiments and solve them and get excited about what they were learning. He was instrumental in creating a well-known STEM initiative here called Project Bluebird.”
Since 2018, Mr. Cook had served in many integral roles at AMS, including math and science teacher, Robotics coach, and most recently, STEM connections teacher.
For the last several years, Mr. Cook also took the drone photos for the annual Adairsville Pink-Out event, honoring and supporting those in our community affected by cancer.
He was everyone’s “go-to technology guy,” so it was no surprise that he was an automotive technician before he was led to serve his community as an educator.
“He could fix anything, loved everything related to STEM and Pokémon Go, and carried his Rubik’s Cube everywhere,” added Ms. Glancy. “We love him and will miss him.”
Passionate, sweet, and kind are all adjectives our school family uses as they cope with the tremendous loss of “Mr. Cool” – a cherished educator who meant so much to so many Tigers – big and small.
Crisis teams are on campus this week to provide additional support to students and staff.
MOMENTOUS MELODIES: Let's give it up for the Woodland Middle School Chorus👏🏽They performed the National Anthem at the Braves game this weekend and KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! Congratulations, Wildcats! Way to represent the Bartow County School System!
ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH: Expert advice says, "Start building this habit in pre-K so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually, good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college."

Being in school supports students’ social, emotional and physical well-being, and provides students with opportunities to learn and reach for their dreams! #BePresentBePowerful
