Seven Bartow County high school students earn coveted seats in the prestigious Georgia Governor’s Honors Program at Georgia Southern University June 16 – July 13, and two alternates are named. Once again, that sets a record in Bartow County!
Congratulations to Adairsville High School juniors Lilith Affolder (Science), Gabriel Greenway (Engineering: Mechanical & Electrical), Skyla Rowland (Visual Arts), and Braden Mathis (World Languages: Spanish); Cass High School junior Damaya Norwood (Music: French Horn) and sophomore Josue Granados (Music: Flute); Woodland High School junior Talal Tariq (Mathematics). The alternates are CHS sophomores Charlotte Langhans (Music: Flute) and Emma Brown (Music: Oboe).
“Congratulations to each of our finalists and alternates on a job well-done,” said GHP Coordinator Paula Camp. “Admission into this elite program is no easy task. It is a yearlong, rigorous process, and I am excited to see a record number of finalists selected this year! These talented students have demonstrated exceptional abilities and dedication, and their participation in GHP is a testament to their excellence. This mature group of students will, without a doubt, leave a mark on this program, as well as Bartow County and beyond.”
GHP is a summer residential program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented sophomores and juniors new and challenging educational opportunities.
More than 1,500 semifinalists from across Georgia participated in state interviews this year and approximately 700 students were named finalists.
The program remains fully funded by the Georgia General Assembly.
