Read to Grow

PLEASE JOIN OUR AMAZING TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS!

One of the most important predictors of high school graduation is reading proficiency in THIRD grade. Before then, students are learning to read. After third-grade, students are reading to learn. The Read to Grow initiative pairs volunteers with first- and second-grade students to provide additional reading practice.

We need YOU, our community members, to support students who are struggling with foundational reading skills. If you can spend an hour a week (ideally) in one of our schools, you can make a difference in a child’s future.  No experience is necessary, just attend a training, get fingerprinted, and start.  There is a $10 fee for fingerprinting, that must be paid in cash, please.

TRAINING DATES

Tuesday 8/16 or 8/30 at 8:30 am

Thursday 8/11 or 8/25 at 3:00 pm

All trainings will be held in the Board Room at 65 Gilreath Road

No need to register, just show up and bring friends!  You will be fingerprinted first and then the training will cover everything you need to know in about an hour.  You choose the school you’d like to visit and the day of the week. Most reading times are in the morning, but there is some availability in early afternoon.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Kristy Mitchell at 770-606-5800, ext. 2043 or kristy.mitchell@bartow.k12.ga.us.  We look forward to you joining our team!
