Emerson participated in our first STEM Walk on April 2, 2021. Due to a yellow phase distinction, the walk was virtual, but it was still just as incredible as in person. Students in all grades utilized the Engineering Design Process to solve problems and create useful solutions and products.
Our kindergarten students planned, budgeted and created animal habitats that could withstand environmental elements. Our first grade students worked with a budget to create animal habitats that will protect their chosen animal from urban development. Our second grade students planned and designed pollinator gardens utilizing arrays. Our third grade students used what they know about recycling and soil to brainstorm ways to create a portable garden. Students then used arrays to plan their gardens and fractions to determine soil composition for their 12 seeds. Our fourth grade students created weather boxes to hold their created weather instruments. Students then used weather data to create weather forecasts. Students videoed their weather reports just as meteorologist do on the news cast. Our fifth grade students were entrepreneurs! Student groups created a business, including a website with their products and prices provided and added a QR code that can be scanned to visit their site. They worked on building a free-standing streetlight that is scaled in accordance with the building they measured and created for their business.
Way to go Eagles! You really SOAR!
