GCEE Delegation Explores Finnish and Estonian Economic and Educational Excellence
Atlanta, GA – April 14, 2025 – The Georgia Council on Economic Education (GCEE) recently concluded an insightful study tour to Finland and Estonia, offering educators nationwide a unique opportunity to enhance their economic education through firsthand experiences of exemplary institutions.
During the visit to Finland, the GCEE delegation gained practical insights from two innovative schools in the Helsinki area. These insights, contributing to Finland's high rankings in global assessments, gave the group a deeper understanding of student-centered learning environments and effective curricula and teaching methods.
The delegation also met with the head of the Bank of Finland museum, where they gained insights into the country's monetary policies and their impact on the economy. They also toured Finland's largest public library and spoke with officials from Finland's Chamber of Commerce.
During its time in Estonia, the delegation visited the Bank of Estonia, where they heard from Economist Peeter Luikmel, who spoke about Estonia's economy, the potential impact of U.S. tariffs, and the ongoing war in Ukraine. The trip concluded with a visit to the Estonian Parliament, where the group met with Parliament members Eerik-Niiles Kross and Hanah Lahe. Both members discussed Estonia's place in the European Union, current national security issues, the environment, and relations with the United States.
“Experiencing the education and financial systems of Finland and Estonia offered fresh perspectives and stories that broadened my perspectives, challenged viewpoints, and will bring real-world context to my classroom. Bringing the world into the classroom through shared experiences fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for learning that extends beyond traditional textbooks. I returned with new stories, new friends, and innovative ideas that will be immediately implemented into my classroom."
This study tour is a testament to GCEE's unwavering commitment to providing educators with global perspectives that enrich economic instruction in Georgia's classrooms, ensuring a high standard of economic education.
