On Saturday, February 10, thirteen students from Adairsville High School competed at the Georgia Mock Trial Competition in Cartersville. The Mock Tigers were one of 139 teams at regional competitions across the state. At the competition, three of the Mock Tigers were recognized for their performances. Hayden Erickson and Lily McCormick both received outstanding witness awards, while Allison Potter received an award for outstanding attorney. The team was coached by local attorney Suzanne Brookshire and school coaches Ashli Hall and Rebecca Silver.
The Georgia Bar Association sponsors the competition for high school students to learn about the legal system, while helping develop critical thinking, speaking skills, and team working abilities. After receiving the case materials from the Bar Association in October, the team has been building a case for both the prosecution and defense. On Saturday, they assumed the roles of attorneys and witnesses and argued the case before prominent area attorneys and judges. The Cartersville region competition was hosted and coordinated by local attorney, Christina Jenkins.
