Longtime Wildcat, Melinda Wilder, lands her “dream job” as principal of Woodland High School!
“To say I’m excited would be the understatement of my life,” said Wilder. “Being named principal of Woodland High School is an incredible honor, and I am overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement. This role represents the culmination of my career aspirations, and I am eager to embark on this journey of leadership, collaboration, and student learning. I feel a deep sense of responsibility to uphold the values and traditions of the school while also striving to innovate and improve educational experiences for our students. I am excited to foster strong partnerships with our incredibly supportive community.”
Wilder started her career as a WHS Wildcat 13 years ago. She was an exceptional education teacher before moving into a regular education position in the math department. Then, after two years as a secondary instructional support specialist at Central Office, Wilder returned “home” to become the WHS curriculum and instruction assistant principal.
“My professional career is a product of the Bartow County School System,” said Wilder. “I am deeply appreciative of the support extended to me by the leaders within our school district, whose mentorship has played a pivotal role in shaping the leader I am today. Working alongside such dedicated mentors who have invested in my growth has been a privilege, motivating me to continually strive for excellence and become the best version of myself. I have participated in the district’s Aspiring Principals Leadership Academy, where I have gained invaluable insights and skills in educational leadership. Through this experience, I have learned not only the importance of effective communication and strategic decision-making but also the significance of fostering a collaborative and supportive school culture. It has been a great journey that has prepared me for the challenges and responsibilities of being a principal.”
Wilder, a former Bartow County School System Teacher of the Year from 2016-2017, is a dedicated and driven leader. She is not afraid to set high standards for herself and prides herself on always “doing what’s best for kids.”
“I am excited to cheer them on at sporting events, concerts, ceremonies, and any other event that is important to them,” said Wilder. “The people of Woodland High School – our students, staff, and community – bring the most excitement to the role of principal.”
Wilder will officially assume the principalship position on June 1, 2024.
