Preparation for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse is well underway! Although Bartow County is not in the direct path of totality, the eclipse will be partially visible from approximately 1:40 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8.
This scientific phenomenon is exciting for many and a great learning opportunity for our students. The Bartow County School System will provide safe solar viewing glasses for all students and staff. Individuals in grades three through 12 will participate in literacy-based eclipse activities and will go outside to view the eclipse with our glasses that have been safety certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and labeled ISO 12312-2 compliant. Pre-K through second grade students will have the opportunity to participate in this event from inside the school building through possible live streaming platforms and eclipse-related instructional activities.
Student dismissal and our After School Program will occur during the eclipse. All students outside or riding a bus will be advised to wear the safety glasses provided.
If you do not want your child to participate in the outside solar eclipse viewing activities, an opt-out form will be available to you soon. An online link will be communicated through your school, and paper copies of the form will be available at your school’s front desk. Alternate instructional options will be available for opt-out students.
We appreciate your help and support, and we look forward to sharing this exciting learning experience with you!
